The Rotary Club of Cedar Hill is a diverse group of local business people and civic leaders who have completely embraced the essence of Rotary International's "Service Above Self" theme. The Club was chartered on May 21, 2003, and early on earned the distinction of winning Rotary District 5810 awards, most notably in the areas of youth and community service. District 5810 encompasses over 67 clubs in North Texas, stretching from Sherman to Ennis. Our youth services include an annual "Coats 4 Kids" campaign to insure that all Cedar Hill grammar school children have a warm winter coat. At the beginning of each school year, our club works with the CHISD and local Food Pantry to provide school supplies for children from low income families. We send lucky Cedar Hill high school boys and girls to RYLA, the Rotary Youth Leadership camp, and support two Interact Clubs in CHISD high schools.
The Head for the Hills bike rally allows the Rotary Club of Cedar Hill to maintain our youth programs and make direct donations to the Cedar Hill Food Pantry, City library, CHISD Education Foundation, Bridges Safehouse and Hope Mansion to help abused women make a new start, plus sponsor summer day camp scholarships, and respond to other immediate needs in the community. Our club's charitable activity also includes the Rotary International Polio Plus program, and donations to the Wheelchair Foundation. We were able to respond to the earthquake in Haiti by funding three "Shelter Boxes" that house 30 people and are organizing a 'Pure Air' project for Mexico to replace indoor open fires with fuel efficient stone ovens. All our charitable efforts are funded by this one event, which the club plans for 10 months out of every year.
Rotary Club of Cedar Hill would like to thank our volunteers, sponsors like the City of Cedar Hill, Richardson Bike Mart, the Cedar Hill Recreation Center, Uptown Village, and all of the fantastic riders who come out to support our bike rally. Albertson’s cookies and bananas, Chick-fil-A sandwiches, therapists from Expressions Chiropractic, and a fresh hamburger made on the spot by Red Robin Restaurant are a GINORMOUS hit with our riders. Matt’s Rancho Martinez, Italia Express, and Black-eyed Pea all provided a real taste sensation for participating riders. The donation of their time from professionals like magician David Hira and photographer Scott Keith make our event unique and fun.
